We have all been on extended visit's, a get away, a time to wander...A Vacation!
In our visits to the few places we have been , I must admit one does take notice of the environment that surrounds oneself.
In 2012 we had visited Long Beach,  Washington and stayed at the Adrift Motel, ( previously known at one time as Nendels Inn). It was remodeled into a kind of funky place at the shore. Nails to hang your clothing, apple crates as shelving, and a rough slate floor in the bathroom. It was nothing like that of the Edgewater Inn Motel in Seattle Washington.
At the Edgewater Inn rooms were nice but unkempt. The courtesy clerks were nice but got the registration mixed up and what we were supposed to get we did not. Pretty bad for a five star hotel.
The Hotels and Motels I have visited and my scale rating of 1 to 5 stars:
Edgewater Motel , Seattle :  4, 3, 3  Service was lacking, errors made based on 3 visits

The Artic Club Hotel, Seattle : 3,2,3  Dark, noisy, service lacking

The Adrift Motel , Long Beach Washington : 2, 2, 3 ( previously known as Nendel's Inn Motel at Long Beach) Noisy, unkempt, low service rating.
Best Western Motel, Astoria Oregon : 4 ,4, 4( This hotel held up to and past it's 4 star rating, I would have given it a 5 star if location was better, service was definitely 5 star.)

We love the to go out to the Washington and Oregon coasts. This year 2014 our visit to Astoria so far has been very pleasant. People down here in Astoria seem to be very nice compared to Washington.
Everyone we have met in these two very rainy days has been very nice.

Onward down the Oregon coast.
We stopped by Seaside for gas and that was it, Seaside is very tourist oriented. Never stayed there due to that fact. Down past Cannon Beach and a few other places. We ended up stopping and staying at a place we stayed at before about 18 years ago in Rockaway Beach, Oregon. We liked the Ocean there then and we do today. The beaches are clean, foot traffic and bicycles only we had seen.
Our pick here was the . It was not fancy, but yet it was clean. They had Pet and Non-pet units. Of course not being pet owners we chose the later.
Surfside Oceanfront Resort , Rockaway Beach, Oregon : 4,3,2 ambiance was great, facilities comfortable but not fancy, service lacking . We chose the off season in hopes of catching a nice winter storm which we did, lightning and all. On this the third day of our vacation we got the exact same unit as we had 18 years ago, not much had changed. The unit had a kitchenette, shower and bath.1 bedroom with a queen bed and a queen bed in living room with a gas fireplace. Flat screen TV in both rooms and a slider to a small balcony. Comfortable, warm and cozy.
